Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site

One of America’s unique and best-loved personalities, Samuel Clemens - later known as Mark Twain - was born in a rented cabin in the small town of Florida. The cabin is now preserved inside the museum, along with a handwritten manuscript of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and furnishings from his Hartford, Conn. home, at Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site. The historic site and surrounding Mark Twain State Park stand as a tribute to the author-humanist.

Ilasco (Cement Company Town) 1903-1962

Immigrant town named for ingredients used to produce cement and dissoved in 1962. Located on Hwy 79, two miles south of the Mark Twain Cave. Visit the 100 year old jail and the monuments that tell the story of the village, the people and cement company that grew the town to 3,000 people. The Village is gone but not forgotten.

Tour Missouri’s largest dairy, where more than 3,000 holsteins are milked three times a day — 360 cows an hour! Watch the milking process from the observation deck above the 60-cow carousel. Call ahead for a guided tour to see the goat dairy, milking 1200 goats morning and evening. View the barn, nursery, milk house and farm life. Just down the road near Newark, Missouri, the Heartland Community offers food and lodging-Ozark Lodge & Steakhouse, a 50's style cafe, Ford museum, bulk foods and more.
