Historic Hannibal Offers a Chance to Honor Military Loved Ones
At Christmas with Honor Tree
Hannibal, Mo. - Those who think the Holiday Season is too commercial take heart; Historic Downtown Hannibal is inviting everyone to stop and thank those who have bravely fought for our country with a special, personalized display of gratitude in the heart of downtown Hannibal during Hannibal’s Hometown Christmas on Saturday, December 8th.
Named the “Honor Tree,” the evergreen, generously donated by the Salt River Master Gardeners, will be placed in the Demonstration Garden at the corner of Bird and Main Streets in Historic Downtown. Draped in red and blue lights, families are invited to come out and hang a white ornament with the name or names of a member of the military, past or present. There is no charge for the ornament, but there is a limit of one per family as only a limited amount will be available. Beginning at 7:15 pm, guests can receive their ornament and write the name or names of their loved ones. The names will be read aloud and placed on the tree. Once all ornaments are in place, the tree will be lit, offering a red, white and blue reminder of those protecting our freedoms across the world.
“The holiday season is the perfect time to remember our family and friends that have served bravely to protect the freedoms we enjoy every day,” said Gail Bryant, Director of the Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are so proud of the efforts of the Historic Hannibal Marketing Council in making Hannibal’s Hometown Christmas an event with heart.”

HANNIBAL UNVEILS NEW BRAND
HANNIBAL MO - Today marks a very special day in the city of Hannibal as their new brand is unveiled. From the conclusion of an ongoing effort that has been almost a year in the making, this endeavor is the result of research, hard-work and collaboration with the goal of establishing consistency and building equity in promoting our community.
Last fall, the Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau utilized the H2R Research Agency, a professional market research company, to carry out a market assessment study of Hannibal. The results revealed the perception of Hannibal was generally favorable; but Hannibal had no distinct identity in the minds of the respondents in this study.
“Today we will introduce an identifiable solution to an issue that was brought to light in the research. The establishment of Hannibal’s brand gives us that distinct identity. To us - the residents of the Hannibal community - we will always be “America’s Hometown.” The brand establishes consistency and advances our message that we are a premier tourism destination!”
“This brand is more than a logo; it is more than a ‘tourism’ effort. It is a community-wide, collaborative brand that builds equity among all businesses, and establishes consistency in our message of all of the entities that utilize it. Establishing a brand, and maintaining the integrity of the Mark, allows all Hannibal businesses to reap the benefits of brand reinforcement; a consistent identity that allows the reach of everyone’s message to be exponentially increased. Also, reiterating ‘top-of-mind’ awareness that every business, tourism destination, and city strive to do; this collective Hannibal brand gives our community that edge,” announced by the Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau Director, Gail Bryant, today at a press conference.
It is now our privilege to present to you – the new Hannibal logo and tagline.
We would like to invite all of you to support our efforts by incorporating this Mark into your print media, electronic media and digital marketing plans to accelerate the communication of our message, world-wide.
For more information, please contact the Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau by calling 573.221.2477.

May 2, 2012
The Missouri State Knights of Columbus Horseshoe Board of Directors has named Good Shepherd Council 907 in Hannibal, as host for the 2012 State KC Horseshoe Tournament. The dates of the tournament are August 17, 18 and 19, 2012. “It is a great showing of honor and confidence by the State Board in awarding the tournament to Good Shepherd Council. Our history of hosting the tournament, our atmosphere of hospitality and our great facility make Hannibal a premier location for holding this tournament. Bill Fisher was named as tournament chair and John Pierceall as co-chair of the event. We have already inaugurated planning for the event”, says Kenny Buckman, Grand Knight of Good Shepherd Council.
The tournament will be held next to the Hannibal Inn. Over the summer, the designated area will be transformed into the site of the year for the tournament. With over 100 pits being place, large concession tents will be setup, and a communication center put into place. The tournament will begin at 9a.m. Saturday morning; mass will be held on the Saturday evening on the site location and the tournament concludes with trophy rounds Sunday afternoon.
“As we progress towards this event, I would like to thank the Hannibal Inn, Gail Bryant Hannibal Tourism Director, and the City of Hannibal for their cooperation with this event. Without them, this would be a difficult event to host,” says John Pierceall, tournament co-chair.
“Good Shepherd Council previously hosted this tournament in 1994. We expect around 600 teams from across the State of Missouri to participate. Many participants will also bring their families, which increase the number of visitors to approximately 3000 to Hannibal. The economic impact for Hannibal is tremendous. That’s a lot of hungry people looking for dinner and a place to sleep.” states Bill Fisher, tournament chairman.
Good Shepherd Council 907 is one of the oldest Knights of Columbus Council in the State of Missouri, receiving its charter August 10, 1910. More information on the tournament is available by contacting Bill Fisher at 573-248-8810. Hannibal Representatives Support Missouri Tourism Efforts
Missouri Travel Council members served up Missouri Tourism to lawmakers and officials to underline the importance of state funding to the Missouri Division of Tourism in early March. Representatives from Hannibal included: Hannibal Convention & Visitors Bureau staff Gail Bryant, Director and Megan Rapp, Assistant Director & Group Sales Manager; Mark Twain Cave owner Linda Coleberd, and Native American Trading Company owner Mike O’Cheltree. Again, Capitol Days was a huge success. Thousands of pancakes were served to lawmakers and their staff, and many legislators took part in "flipping" pancakes in the Capitol Rotunda. Most importantly, it was an opportunity for tourism industry representatives to tell their story to legislators about how important the tourism industry is to the state’s economy.
Representatives from the tourism industry visited their local representatives’ offices while at the capitol, asking for their support to Tourism. Tourism is a vital part of Missouri’s economy, providing 627 million dollars in state tax revenues and employing over 279,599 Missouri workers. Tourism industry representatives emphasized to legislators that for every dollar invested in the Missouri Division of Tourism budget, the state of Missouri receives $3.22 back in state tax revenues, making tourism one of the departments that generates revenue for the state’s general fund, which in turn provides funds for other state funded programs.
